FAQ: Interactive Dashboards
|
|
|
| Q: |
Are the dashboards pre-defined or can I design my own dashboards? |
| A: |
You can use the dashboard design tool to design any virtually any type of dashboard layout that your managers want. |
|
| |
| Q: |
Are the different type of graphical components (like charts, gauges, buttons, etc.) pre-defined? |
| A: |
Yes. A large number of graphical business intelligence objects come with the dashboard design tool. In addition, you can import graphical items, like Maps and pictures, etc. |
|

| Q: |
How difficult is it to learn to design dashboards? |
| A: |
It is somewhat similar to designing a fancy PowerPoint presentation. Some users train themselves through tutorials and the examples that come with the system. We generally recommend our two-day training class, which will take you through all the principles of building dashboards and make you into a power user. |

| Q: |
In addition to feeding data from internal data sources, can the dashboard get data from financial web sites, etc. (for example exchange rates, financials for public companies, etc.)? |
| A: |
Yes. Using the built-in functionality for Web Services (services that provide data to you in a pre-defined XML format), you can either connect to existing Web Services or you (or Solver's consultants) can create your own Web Services to load data automatically from virtually any web-site. |

| Q: |
Where is the business logic (such as calculations for a P&L or what-if sliders) created? |
| A: |
The mathematical logic and calculation engine for the Interactive Dashboard is ingeniously simple because it comes from a Microsoft Excel workbook that you create and import when you first design the dashboard. This then becomes an internal component to the dashboard. In other words, you will never have to learn a development language. Because of this technological advantage, most dashboard designers are business people, rather then IT people. |
