XL Budgeter (Advanced Budgeting Module)
XL Budgeter is an Excel-based budgeting and forecasting tool that combines the best of Excel with the best of a database-driven budget solution. XL Budgeter writes the budget directly to your Dynamics database, and then you can use any popular report writer like XL Reporter or Microsoft FRx for reporting purposes. Who said managing and completing a budgeting process has to be so hard?
With XL Budgeter you can leverage the budgeting and forecasting Excel templates that you've already invested in and your accounting and operations staff can easily review and manage the workflow.
XL Budgeter offers:
- Stand-Alone functionality, so that it can work with your favorite report writer to generate the budget and forecast Excel templates
- Direct write-back of budgets/forecasts to the budget tables (in the GL tables) in the Dynamics GP ERP system
- Budget Managers can write-back their own budgets (without using up a user license of Dynamics GP)
- Line Item Budgeting (i.e. expenses and revenues below the GL Account Level)
- Built-in spreading tool (with four different spreading methods)
- Storing Text Comments (per line item and per GL Account) to the SQL database
- Built-in approval workflow

Typical Workflow
1. You'll have created your budget/forecast templates as usual (or it can be automated through a template driven system when used with XL Reporter). And here you are in your Budget template.
2. Then you go to your Excel add-ins and bring up XL Budgeter. You now have a user interface to use on top of your budget/forecast templates to assist with: Spreading, Entering and saving Line Item Budgets, Sub-Ledger Budgeting, Approval statuses, etc.
Here's the XL Budgeter user interface on top of a sample PL Budget template.

3. Next, Department Managers (if you budget by department) write-back their own budgets/forecasts to the budget tables in the GL of Dynamics GP, with a click of a button. But also the line item budgets are written back to the budget tables of XL Budgeter, which also reside within your Dynamics GP database.
4. Finally, the overall budget manager can run reports or do ad-hoc queries to get the consolidated budget amounts across multiple departments and to better manage the budgeting process. See below for some sample reports.
Here's a sample Budget Status Report that shows budget statuses across multiple departments.

Here's a sample Advanced Budgeting Report showing Line Item Details across different GL Accounts.
